Memes are a cultural phenomenon that has become a part of how we interact as individuals in the virtual web. It is a part of what we as Internet users come across on a daily basis through viral media such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, the news, etc. Over the past decade viral media has become a hypnotic form of communication that has become a trend to users as it creates interest from all over. Memes are what we know as being is what we now know as popular culture because memes are so attractive to individuals helping them to evolve eventually becoming viral.
Thus far, we have looked through many YouTube videos that have been viral and considered to be memes. We have researched the top 10 memes and for the most part it has been LOL cats, epic fails, rick rolls and Sparta kicks. On the know your meme website there is a video that that talks about the “om nom nom” sounds that have been used to make many animals look like they are eating things and it has become viral. This is apparently viral and interesting to watch because in Sesame Street the Cookie Monster says “om nom nom” when eating cookies, so people are already familiar with the saying subconsciously.
Through our research we have decided that what sells to people as a meme, is not just humour... it is a compilation of violence, nudity, cute animals, imitations, and people “failing”. For our meme we will be creating a viral LOL epic rick Sparta fail roll kick cat. Our meme will consist of everything that makes a meme a meme including the music, humour and hypnotic visual images that people love.
In marketing our meme, we will be using all social media as mentioned that conducts a lot of traffic. We will use these websites to track how our meme has progressed over time and hopefully attract a large enough audience so that it spreads.
